A pianist by training, Carolyn Kleiner Cheng has been trained in the Dalcroze, Kodály, Orff and Suzuki Methods. She received her Dalcroze License at the Longy School of Music at Cambridge, Massachusetts, the first Filipino to do so. She recently did her Level I at the San Francisco International Orff Course in Carmel Valley, California. She has received Suzuki training since the 1980’s and has been teaching it since then, with a hiatus when she had her family. Her training in the Kodály Method includes a year of Kodály Pedagogy and Ear Training at the New England Conservatory of Music, 2 seminars with Dr. Arpad
Darazs at the Cultural Center of the Philippines and one summer at the Zoltan Kodály Pedagogical Institute in Kecskemet, Hungary, with Erzsebet Hegyi. She received her Australian National Kodály Certificate from the University of Queensland in Brisbane on January 2006. She is a sought-after clinician in the
Dalcroze and Kodály Methods, having given seminars and lectures all over the Philippines, including Hong Kong and Taipei. She has also given piano master classes to Suzuki students in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia and Jakarta, Indonesia. Ms. Cheng has taught Dalcroze Eurhythmics to pre-schoolers ages 2-6 since 1985 to the present and was a consultant for the grade school and high school levels at Immaculate Conception Academy, an exclusive girls’ school. At the University of the Philippines College of Music, she is the former Chair of the Keyboard Department, handling piano majors and minors, and teaching Dalcroze and Kodály to dance majors.
