Dr. Hongky Cho is a Korean Kodaly Special Educator, Cultural Art Program Adjudicator & Advisor, an instructor of choral conducting and music education seminuars, as well as a vocal trainer and singer. He is the Director of the Korean Kodaly Institute and the Korean Kodaly Society, as well as the President of the Korea International Choral Association, Vice President of the Korean Federation of Choral Music, the Arts Director of the Kodaly Singers, and a former professor of Seoul Art College and Suwon Women’s College.
Dr. Cho’s choirs have won many awards internationally. These include a Gold Medal in the 1st Choir Olympics in Austria (2000), reaching the semi-finals in the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) Choir Competition in London (2001), being awarded the Pro Cultural Hungarica Award (2004) from the Ministry of Cultural Heritage of Hungary, the Future of Europe Award (2008) from the Future of Europe Association, and the International Culture Awards from the International Cultural Association (2009).
He has been invited as a guest lecturer to Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, China, Hong Kong, the UK, and Hungary. He has also presented at conferences such as the ISME conference (2016, 2018), the APSMER Conference(2011, 2013), the IFCM Symposium (2014), and the IKS Sympsium (2005, 2009, 2011, 2015). Dr. Cho has also been a keynote speaker for the Asia A Cappella Festival in Gwangju (2014), an international seminar in Taijung University, Taiwan (2011), the Cantonigros Choir Festival in Spain, and the Csipero Children Festival in Hungary. He has also been on the faculty of the International Kodaly Seminar in Hungary (2007), and been part of the International Friendship Children’s Choir Festival in the USA (2001).
Dr. Cho has also been adjudicator for competitions such as the Incheon Airport International A Cappella Competition in 2014, and the Singapore Choir Competition from 2008-2012.
