Experienced across primary, secondary and tertiary education, Stefanie has taught Music (and other Arts subjects) in both private and state sectors in Australia and prior to this, in the UK. She is an ordinary member of the national council of the Kodaly Music Education Institute (Australia).
Teaching across sectors and along the spectrum, from special school to gifted and talented programs, has given her comprehensive insight into teaching and learning in the Arts, both from the educator’s perspective, as well as that of parent and arts practitioner. Stefanie is a passionate advocate for the role the arts play in the building, critiquing and sustaining of human culture.
Having recently completed M.Ed. research into what educators know about the nature of human creativity and how they apply this knowledge in their teaching, Stefanie has gained the support of her colleagues and principal in one P-6 school to design ways of embedding critical and creative thinking across the curriculum. She believes that Kodaly’s philosophy has much to offer current considerations on how to build creative capabilities across domains and that it can lead the way into the future by showcasing effective and intentional teaching for transferable skills in this area.
