Katchia Avenell (M.Ed; Grad. Dip Ed; B.Mus T, Cert III Children’s Services) is an educational consultant, nature pedagogue and Kodaly-trained music specialist, who is a fully qualified and registered teacher from birth to year 12. She has worked with high-needs and at risk youth and has provided respite and alternative education to children with diverse learning needs and socio-developmental requirements.
Katchia is an advocate of democratic and consultative education, nature-based learning and alternative education, the arts and PLAY. A strong ethics, gender and inclusivity lens underpins her work with both children and adults, and she is passionate in facilitating this discussion with others.
Katchia brings a diverse work history to her teaching and training; as a business analyst, project analyst and change management facilitator, she has facilitated multi-million dollar projects across both the Eastern and Western sea board; She has worked professionally and semi-professionally within both Australian and International arts, music theatre and opera companies both on and behind the stage; and lived and worked in intentional communities around the world.
She has experience in teaching and learning, International Baccalaureate, long day care, family day care, educational leadership, training, trauma support and coaching and mentoring. Katchia also leads online learning and reflection forums and webinars. She assists in developing and implementing Forest Schools and Nature Kindergartens across Australia, and currently leads a River Kindergarten in the Sunshine Coast of Queensland, Australia during school terms.
